GDP was selected to serve as Construction Manager at Risk / General Contractor for the Georgia Institute of Technology in demolishing and reconstructing 3,300 linear feet of sidewalk, installing extensive hardscaping and landscaping elements, and burying a telecommunications and a 20kV electrical duct bank along the southern entrance of the campus on North Avenue in downtown Atlanta. The project has involved integrating the plans of three designers and the input of five school departments, but has been successfully managed by conducting bi-weekly meetings that coordinate and communicate schedule and design impacts to each stakeholder. In addition, traffic and pedestrian flow has had to be coordinated through GDOT and has involved regularly changing lane closures, sidewalk detours, and safety plans. Despite obtaining GDOT approval 3 months later than anticipated and discovering old asbestos steam lines that needed remediation, GDP has maintained the schedule and the original budget by working 6 days a week while making quick, in situ design decisions with the architect when unforeseen conditions or issues have been found.
